Australian brothers and American found dead in Mexican well after surf trip

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Relatives have identified three bodies found in a well as those of two Australian surfers and one American who went missing last weekend, Mexican authorities said Sunday. Baja California state prosecutors said the relatives had viewed the corpses recovered from a remote well about 50 feet (15 meters) deep and recognized them as their loved ones. Thieves apparently killed the three, who were on a surfing trip to Mexico's Baja peninsula, to steal their truck because they wanted the tires.

Fired State College Police Officer now in Johnstown, target of federal civil lawsuit

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A police officer fired from the State College Police Department two years ago is now working for the Johnstown Police Department. Now, he's at the center of a $1.2 million federal lawsuit for allegedly assaulting a man during a traffic stop in Johnstown. According to court documents, Johnstown Police got a call for a "weapons incident" on March 29th of this year. When Officer Joseph Scharf responded, the arrest affidavit says he conducted a traffic stop and started questioning occupants in the vehicle.

Japan uses 'Godzilla' as part of nationwide traffic safety campaign

Tokyo, Japan — Godzilla promoted traffic safety in Tokyo ahead of the nationwide spring traffic safety campaign. The popular movie character played the role of one-day police chief of the Tokyo Metropolitan police department's Ikebukuro police station. Godzilla paraded streets in Ikebukuro, urging people to observe traffic rules. At the traffic safety campaign venue, people took part in traffic rule quizzes. The traffic accidents that occurred in the area covered by the Ikebukuro police station last year amounted to approximately 230 cases, with bicycles involved in about 40 percent of them.
