CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Clearfield County say an Irvona man is behind bars following an investigation into allegations that he repeatedly sexually abused a teenage girl. Troopers say the victim disclosed multiple incidents of sexual assault by 55-year-old Cory Kubiak, including one incident that reportedly occurred while she was in the shower. Police say all of the alleged assaults occurred at a residence in Irvona Borough.

PITTSBURGH -- A house fire that killed a 4-year-old girl and two women in Pittsburgh has been ruled an arson. Authorities say 41-year-old Martell Smith allegedly set the fire that broke out early Wednesday. He allegedly had been involved in a bar fight earlier that night with a relative of the victims who also lived at the home. Smith faces three counts of homicide, along with arson and drug charges, while 26-year-old Tiasia Malloy is charged with aggravated assault on an officer.

Striking nurses chanted and waved signs outside two large New York City hospitals Monday after a weekend of negotiations over pay and staffing levels did not produce a deal for a new contract. The walkout involves as many as 3,500 nurses at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and about 3,600 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Patients are likely to see disruptions in care such as emergency room visits and childbirth.

UNIVERSITY PARK – The 17th Annual THON 5K was held on Pennsylvania State’s campus. Several runners came out to take part in the event to raise money to directly benefit the Four Diamonds at Penn State’s Children’s hospital. They will use to help cover 100 percent of the costs of patient care, as well as to fund critical, life-saving research. THON is one of the largest 5K races in central Pennsylvania.
