Cambria County Humane Society closes to the public amid internal disagreement

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) -- The Humane Society of Cambria County is having an internal battle between staff members and the board of directors. And because of ongoing disagreements on Friday, the organization closed its doors to the public. The society's executive director told WJAC it was a tough decision to close its doors to the public, but the problem with the board has been festering for months. The Humane Society did, however, open for business on Saturday because it is their biggest adoption day.

Champion Life Church provides food and company

ALTOONA -- Many churches, including Champion Life Church, offered free Thanksgiving meals to those in need of food or company. "There are people (who) may not be able to afford a meal like this, but most importantly, there are those (who) may not even have anybody to spend Thanksgiving with," said Devin Spradling of Champion Life Church. "It's important that we give them a place where they can come in and they can meet with other people that they know or may not know and establish some type of connection or relationship with them.

NTSB releases findings following investigation into deadly PA chocolate factory explosion

(WJAC) — The latest (AP): Vice President Mike Pence is crediting the crew and passengers who fought back against hijackers on 9/11 with protecting the U.S. Pence spoke at the commemoration Wednesday of the hijacked Flight 93, which crashed in a Pennsylvania field, killing 40 passengers and crew. The Flight 93 National Memorial marks the site near Shanksville where the plane went down at 10:03 a.m., after passengers fought back.

Punxsutawney gears up for influx of Groundhog Day business

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (WJAC) — Groundhog Day is Thursday and folks from around the country and the world are gearing up to make the pilgrimage to see Punxsutawney Phil. That means good business for the small town. "We have 6,000 people that live here, and it swells to 20 or 30,000," Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce President Katie Laska told 6 News. "You can just imagine the impact that it has on our economy here.
