Best year in a decade for Blair County airport in 2023 despite loss of over 400k posted

A financial report states the Altoona-Blair County Airport had an operating loss of over $400,000 in 2023, but the airport manager said that number is out of context, and they had money in hand by the end of the year. The Altoona-Blair County airport manager Tracy Plessinger said even though it is a smaller airport they manage about $42 million in assets, and those assets losing value is what makes it appear as if the airport lost money.

Brockway house fire damage estimated over $100,000

BROCKWAY - The state police fire marshal, the Brockway Police Department and Brockway Fire Department estimated the fire damage to a single-story residential home at 1127 Pershing Street in Brockway Wednesday to be over $100,000. State police in Ridgway said Jamie S. Hynds, 39, of Brockway, was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois by ambulance for injuries suffered at the fire scene. Paterno Family's Beaver Stadium Run raises over $500k for Special Olympics PA

The Paterno Family Run brought thousands of runners and walkers onto the field at Beaver Stadium. They raised more than $500,000 to support Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes. “Nothing could be more perfect, we had great weather, great people, and everybody’s having fun and what more could we ask for and the cause is unbelievably good," said Sue Paterno. Runners and walkers of all ages made their way to Beaver Stadium on Sunday morning.

Saint Joseph's Academy suspends football for 2018 season

BOALSBURG, Pa. - Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy in Boalsburg has suspended its football program for the 2018 season. Athletic Director Chad Walsh said the decision was made due to a lack of committed players for the upcoming season. “We have not finished a season with more than 18 healthy players over the past 5five seasons. This year, we are looking at fewer than 13 who have committed to playing," said Walsh.

Sen. Bob Casey visits Blair County to support Carpenters' Apprenticeship Program

Sen. Bob Casey visited Blair county today to tour the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenter's and Joiners Local #423 facility. The newly expanded facility trains local apprentices across 17 different counties in western and central PA as well as parts of Maryland and West Virginia. With the passing of the newInfrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, new funding will be rolling in over the coming months and years to improve the infrastructure in Pennsylvania.
