The former teacher in Tennessee who was accused of raping a child has been arrested again, less than three weeks later — this time for coercion of a witness, aggravated stalking, and harassment. Alissa McCommon, 38, was first arrested on Sept. 8. She bailed out and was not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim, or any minors other than her own children. But Covington police say that’s not what happened.
State College, PA (WJAC) — State College Borough is going back on its decision to put a parking garage in place of local businesses. 6 News attended Monday night’s council meeting where a number of people showed up to support the businesses in question. Monday’s council meeting was filled with people in support of the Brewery, Music Mart and the rest of the local businesses at risk. The borough council heard from residents and decided to vote again on the resolution.
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The upcoming trial has been delayed for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who was charged last year in the death of his wife, Nancy Giles. Authorities confirmed Thursday that a judge has appointed a new public defender after learning that Giles' previous attorney has a "conflict of interest" in the case. Officials say the attorney's firm was also reportedly representing someone who was related to one of the witnesses in the case.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An undocumented immigrant accused of murdering his girlfriend and leaving her body along US-131 will be going to trial. Wednesday, a judge found enough evidence to send Brandon Ortiz-Vite, a 25-year-old citizen of Mexico, to trial on charges of felony murder, open murder, carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm. He was previously arraigned on all five charges in the death of Ruby Garcia, 25, of Grand Rapids.
QUEMAHONING TWP, Pa. (WJAC) — Update: State police say 61-year-old Denise Shaulis has died after her vehicle collided with a dump truck along Route 30 in Somerset County Wednesday. The crash happened near the intersection of Haines School Road after Shaulis' vehicle crossed over into the other lane, police say. Another driver involved in the crash told police Shaulis was having trouble maintaining her lane before crossing into the path of the truck.
