In recent years, it's been pretty commonplace for businesses to be short staffed.

But what happens when that trend affects the pharmacy you use?

According to a survey released by the National Community Pharmacists Association this summer, over 75% of pharmacists say they're having a tough time filling positions.

That can lead to longer wait times for patients who desperately need their medications and even life saving vaccines.

The survey says, this year, over 88% of respondents say that finding pharmacy techs was their biggest problem.

Some chain pharmacies have had to temporarily close their doors or cut their hours, leaving customers scrambling to get their prescriptions.

On the other hand, Mainline Pharmacy -- with 12 locations in our region -- say they have not had that problem.

Pharmacists there say they're "open and ready to welcome new customers" for those frustrated by the staffing shortages at large chain pharmacies.

"We're very fortunate. It definitely helps out our customers. We're always here to help out. If you have any needs, we're able to fill your prescriptions. We're always open," said Pharmacist Peter Ponchione.

Our pharmacy teams have been on the frontlines of the pandemic response for nearly three years, administering COVID-19 tests and providing life-saving vaccinations. We’ve been successful in ensuring our stores and pharmacies remain open to help support our customers, patients and communities and are not experiencing any widespread staffing issues across our Johnstown area pharmacies," -CVS SpokespersonThis pharmacy at locations in this area are temporarily operating on adjusted hours due to staffing issues. The retail portion of the store remains open for regular hours, and store associates are assisting customers by directing them to an alternative Rite Aid to receive their prescriptions when the pharmacy is closed. We are taking necessary steps to serve our customers and look forward to resuming regular hours at the pharmacy as soon as we can," - Rite Aid Spokesperson

If you have concerns, pharmacists tell you to plan ahead and talk to your healthcare provider to get your medication on time.
