Aliquippa, PA (WPXI) — Authorities say an unusual discovery was made after a call to 911 for an unresponsive man at a home in Pennsylvania turned up dozens of venomous snakes and an alligator.
Officials say more than 150 snakes and an alligator were removed from a home in Aliquippa on Tuesday where a man was found dead.
The man was one of four adults and a young child who lived in the home.
The city's code enforcement officer was called to remove the more than 100 venomous snakes and other reptiles since it is against city code to own these types of animals.
“There was a wide variety of snakes. There was a cobra in there, I do believe there was a rattlesnake in there. There were black mambas which are extremely venomous.”
The code enforcement officer said the four adults moved from out of state about two months ago with the intention of selling the reptiles at shows and online.
The animals were removed and taken to an exotic pet store where they will be under quarantine.
Aliquippa Police say an autopsy shows the man did not die from a snake bite so the investigation into his death continues.
