The upcoming trial has been delayed for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who was charged last year in the death of his wife, Nancy Giles.

Authorities confirmed Thursday that a judge has appointed a new public defender after learning that Giles' previous attorney has a "conflict of interest" in the case.

Officials say the attorney's firm was also reportedly representing someone who was related to one of the witnesses in the case.

Giles' trialwas originally scheduled to be held later this month, with jury selection set for October 12 and 13th.

He was arrested and charged with homicide last year following a 3-and-a-half year investigation into his wife's disappearance and death.

Authorities say Nancy's body was found along the James Wolf Sculpture Trail in May of 2019, and Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees ruled her death a homicide.

Detectives say the lengthy investigation included interviews with several witnesses who had interacted with Giles since his wife was reported missing in 2018.

Investigators noted that during some of those interviews, police learned that Giles had made several statements about the crime scene and Nancy's death that "only the individual who killed her would have knowledge about."

Officials say a status conference is scheduled for October 24th, where a new trial date will be scheduled.
