HYDE PARK, Ohio (WKRC) - A teenager is dead after being shot just hours after his high school graduation.

Lamon Wiggins, 18, attended Withrow High School.

Lamon's family said he just attended prom a little more than a week ago and graduated on Friday night. Like many high school graduates, he went to celebrate with some friends, but his family said what happened next was completely unexpected.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, a celebration was interrupted by gunfire. Police said Lamon was shot just behind the school where he had graduated, he later died at the hospital.

"He wasn't a street kid, far from it. He was just trying to go have a good time, a great time with his friends, enjoying his moment," his aunt Mariah Lanier said. "It was his moment, and they stole his moment."

She said that he was smart, kind, and just one month away from leaving Cincinnati to go live with family in Georgia.

"He strived, he did everything academically. He's intelligent, smart, polite, real-mannered, and very, very, very, very shy," Lanier said.

Police haven't released any information about suspects or how many people were still at the after-party when this happened. Lamon's family has more questions than answers.

"Why didn't police shut down this situation before, I don't understand. We want answers, we want justice, and we will get it," Lanier said.

They don't believe Lamon was the intended target and want him to know one last thing.

"You can talk to me in my dreams now, you live forever here, forever here," Lanier said tapping her heart.

Cincinnati Public Schools had the district's crisis response team at Withrow High School on Monday. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513)-352-3040.
