The Altoona Curve baseball team announced new owners on Wednesday.
The minor league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates will remain in Altoona, according to a release sent by the team.
The team said Diamond Baseball Holdings is the new owner. It says the company operates other minor league baseball clubs that are affiliated with Major League Baseball.
Bob and Joan Lozinak established the team 25 years ago. The statement said more than 7 million fans have attended games at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
"The Pittsburgh Pirates would like to thank the Lozinak family for their partnership and dedication to our staff, players, and the Curve for the past 25 years,” said Ben Cherington, General Manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates. "Today, we are thrilled to welcome DBH, whose ownership of the Altoona club comes with a strong commitment to the local community, the Pirates organization, and Minor League Baseball."
State Representative Jim Gregory added, “Its a bittersweet day for me. I'm so happy for Bob and Joan and their family. But as one of the original employees, I'm sad that an Era comes to an end. I think the Lozinak family is to be put in a place in our hearts for the incredible number of memories millions have experienced because of their love of this area.”
The release said the transaction should be completed quickly, after “obtaining all necessary approvals from the league and satisfying closing conditions.”
