HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — ABC15 News has obtained new documents relating to the Mica Miller case through the Freedom of Information Act that detail allegations of harassment and stalking that Mica reported to authorities about her estranged husband, John-Paul Miller.
The Robeson County Medical Examiner confirmed Mica died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 27, 2024.
The month before she died, Mica filed multiple police reports with Horry County Police and Myrtle Beach Police for alleged stalking and harassment incidents involving John-Paul.
On Monday, March 11, she filed a Complaint & Motion for Restraining Order against him through the Surfside Beach Magistrate Court.
To establish a pattern of stalking or harassment, the paperwork requires two police reports be attached to the filing that document either first or second-degree harassment and/or stalking. It appears Mica shared three reports.
The first police report given by Mica is on March 3, at 1:00 p.m., at Wicked Tuna, an Horry County restaurant.

Her description of the incident states John-Paul sent her multiple texts that day.
In the report, Mica said the first text came while she was at an oyster roast with her family. She documented the text as saying, "Enjoy your oysters."
She alleged the other text asked, "How was valorous." Mica's report details she attended Valorous Church that morning.
Filing her second report on March 5, at 7:00 a.m., at the County Clerk in Conway, documents show Mica wrote that Miller, "Harassed me before my redacted before and after with multiple emails/calls & texts & letters, put a thick razor in my passenger side tire resulting in new tire."
Mica's third report came after alleged incidents with John-Paul on March 11 at 1:00 a.m., at the Springmaid Pier Parking Garage. According to document dates, this report was filed the same day Mica filed the motion for the restraining order.
In the report, Mica alleged she found three more razors in her car's tires and that Miller, "keyed the back." She continued saying she found a "tracker, and letter accusing me of affair with teenager."
According to the restraining order request, Mica was specifically requesting three things:
- The defendant, listed as John-Paul Miller, be enjoined from abusing threatening to abuse or molesting the plaintiff or members of the plaintiff's family. Mica is listed as the plaintiff.
- The defendant be enjoined from entering or attempting to enter the plaintiff's place of residence, employment, education, or other location.
- The defendant be enjoined from communicating or attempting to communicate with her in a way that would violate South Carolina Code of Laws covering harassment and stalking.
On March 26, a bench trial was held in the case of Mica Miller V. John Paul Miller as a civil case in which Mica sought this restraining order.
ABC15 submitted an additional FOIA request asking for documents relating to the outcome of the bench trial. Our request for that information was denied.
ABC15 obtained, also through the Freedom of Information Act, Mica and John-Paul's postnuptial agreement.

The document states the agreement was for their rights and obligations, should Mica and John-Paul decide to divorce.
The agreement states under legal advisement, John-Paul had the document written by his attorney and it was reviewed by Mica.
It also states that Mica, against John-Paul's legal team's advice, freely and voluntarily agreed to the postnuptial without a lawyer of her own.
Next to listing separation of personal assets and property, one section of the agreement outlines a NACO, or no adverse contact order.
The NACO section from the postnuptial agreement reads in totality:
Mica and John Paul agree to a "No adverse contact order (NACO) which will restrain them from engaging, directly or indirectly, in any adverse conduct towards one another including but not limited to following or stalking the other party. This NACO will permit Mica and john Paul to contact, associate and communicate with one another only so long as both mutually consent to such contact, association or communication. The purpose of the NACO is to both encourage and require civil contact and communication between them, and this NACO is not intended to trigger, implement or effect any provisions of federal Title 18 USC 922(g)(g) or (g)(9), nor is the NACO intended to rise to level of, or be considered, an order of protection as defined in the South Carolina protection from domestic abuse statutes. On Tuesday morning, ABC15 reached out to John-Paul Miller’s attorney for comment on the restraining order request and the allegations listed in the police reports from Mica but has not heard back.
John-Paul Miller has not been arrested or charged with any crimes related to Mica Miller's death.
