CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A long-discussed expansion of a Centre County educational facility is again in the works with the focus on providing training for those interested in medical related careers.
At the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology, many career training classes are full.
Officials have discussed plans for a new health science building for nearly a decade and now, a proposed 35 -thousand square foot building is once again on the drawing board.
“This will contain academic space, a medical library, classrooms, administrative space and a nine thousand square foot suite for local health care providers.”
The new CPI facility is designed for workforce training, especially now with employee shortages in various health care fields.
“When we have talked to folks in the Geisinger and Mount Nittany systems, one of the things they've experienced is the need for people trained in these kinds of professions, and the shortages they’re experiencing.”
The new building will be on the CPI campus, with a projected price tag of just over $15 million.
“I think this is a critical piece in what I would consider the future of Centre County. It’s a win not only for CPI and its students, but also the community, because we all rely on healthcare and healthcare workers.”
