PROVIDENCE, R.I. (TND) — A commercial fisherman, along with a handful of others, were treated to a rare sight in Massachusetts.

Jerry Leeman, who lives in Maine, told The National Desk he saw an orca, which is also known as a killer whale, swimming in the waters off Cape Cod on Sunday.

You don’t see this every day, folks – at least, not in New England,” he said in a video he shared on social media.

The video shows the orca poking its head out of the water.

Leeman also posted six photos, adding that the ocra was following him while he was aboard a boat.

A few images show the orca’s dorsal fin popping out of the water, while another reveals its tail.

Leeman said he’s seen about six orcas in 20 years.

This one was about 40 miles east of Nantucket.

Leeman said the experience was “just awesome.”

He said it was a foggy day, but one that was filled with “pure excitement.”

“They are truly remarkable,” Leeman said of orcas.

Whale and Dolphin Conservation states on its website:

An orca is a marine mammal. They are often confused for being a whale because of their name ‘killer whale’, but did you know that orcas are actually dolphins? In fact, they are the largest member of the dolphin family!"
