Authorities are releasing new details about what led to charges being filed against Cambria County's chief detective Kristy Freoni over the weekend.

According to the affidavit, Richland Police were dispatched to Freoni's home, located along Old Farm Lane, early Sunday morning for a report of a physical domestic disturbance.

Police say Freoni told officers that she and the male victim had returned home from a concert at the Johnstown War Memorial, where both of them had been "consuming alcohol."

Investigators say Freoni told officers that she was sleeping when the victim allegedly "woke her up in an aggressive manner."

Police say Freoni allegedly admitted to then punching the victim in the face.

Authorities say officers observed a "fresh" physical injury to the victim's face.

Police say Freoni was taken into custody and charged with simple assault "under the Domestic Violence Act."

Freoni has since been released on $7,500 bail.

The Cambria County District Attorney's office announced Sunday that Freoni has been suspended, "pending an investigation."

Assistant Chief Lia Demarco has been appointed as the temporary chief detective for Cambria County, pending the results of the investigation.

Freoni's case will be prosecuted by the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.
