DuBois restaurant closed for Memorial Day for first time in 50 years

Robin Meholick, Assistant Supervisor for The Hitching Post in DuBois, said Monday nights are usually one of the busiest times of the week for them.

But due to COVID-19, the cost of wings are going up.

"Monday nights are usually our wing nights. I refuse to order wings for this week, the inflated prices of wings are crazy and I’m just not going to expect people to pay the crazy prices that food suppliers want," she said.

With today being Memorial Day, she said they typically get large orders of wings for picnics.

But this year things are looking a bit different.

"It is a sad day to be closed because it is a day to remember those veterans that paid the ultimate sacrifice my family is a proud military family...so it is hard, it's always a fun day at our bar for Memorial Day," Meholick said.

With capacity limits being lifted, Meholick said that'll bring new challenges.

She said they're already dealing with staff shortages and they were hoping to expand the restaurant to outside but the cost of lumber is just too expensive, "Hopefully things will be back to normal we know that it can change obviously Governor Wolf has done that last minute but we are optimistic that it’s going to stay that way."

Meholick asks her customers to be patient as they adjust to these no capacity limits.
